The RDA makes the rainwater management plan mandatory for project approval

A proper rainwater management plan has been made mandatory by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to approve all real estate projects. The Authority would not approve real estate projects, including commercial or residential projects, without a rainwater management plan, said RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza. The objective of the initiative is to implement eco-friendly initiatives to use rainwater for rainwater harvesting, to tackle the issue of reducing freshwater resources and to become the second rainwater harvesting city in Punjab. The authority also declared that it would divert the rainwater collected for ablution and recycle the ablution water into the watering of public parks. Technical and financial assistance will be provided by the UN for this initiative. In this respect, with the assistance of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Department, the Authority has already initiated rainwater harvesting. The organization has expanded the project's Rs50 million funding. The harvested rainwater can be used for anything but human use after filtration.
