The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has been directed by Commissioner Rawalpindi Muhammad Mahmood to survey the infrastructure required for the Lai Expressway project and separately estimate the government land coming under the project. The purpose of Lai Expressway is not only to reduce traffic congestion and provide better travel facilities but also to help in preventing urban flooding. He said the Lai Expressway project also includes service roads and a flood protection channel. He said that Lai Expressway would play an important role in reducing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and would also significantly reduce environmental pollution. Lai Expressway would improve economically and create new business opportunities which would be in line with the modern requirements of Rawalpindi city. The projects like Lai Expressway and Ring Road would significantly improve the urban life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. They will have great impact on Real Estate Sector of Pakistan. Lai Expressway will be proved to be favourable to nearby housing societies like Rudn Enclave, Capital Smart City and Bahria Town.

Lai Nullah has a length of about 30 Km, stretching from the Margalla hills in Federal Capital City Islamabad at the North-western edge until Soan River in District Rawalpindi of Province of the Punjab.
